Across Bluestem Council girls are winding down from the summer, returning to school and getting back to Girl Scout troop meetings. But, many of these girls will not have the opportunity to return to Girl Scouting because they will not have a troop leader or adult volunteer. Don't let our girls in northeast Oklahoma and southeast Kansas miss out on Girl Scouting, volunteer.
Adults are needed to be troop leaders, assistant leaders, drivers, first-aiders, cookie chair, supply snacks, teach crafts or just be a warm body. Not sure if there is time for Girl Scouting in your busy schedule? There are a variety of troop meetings and volunteer opportunities to accommodate your schedule. Some troops meet after school, in the evening and even on the weekend. Some meet every week, every other week or once a month. There is no excuse, there is a position waiting for you!
Volunteering for Girl Scouting can be a rewarding experience. The rewards of being an adult volunteer are both direct and indirect. Leaders surveyed said they received rewards they don't typically get in their daily lives - rewards such as a sense of giving back, making a difference in a girl's life, contributing to the community, event management and training that has benefits in other parts of life. Volunteering in any capacity is a chance to address the needs of an entire generation of girls.
The only personal resource Girl Scouting requires of you is time. Bluestem Council will provide you with guidance, training, and leadership. There are meetings, manuals and mailings to give you all the tools you need. The Girl Scout organization is made of an extensive support network on three levels - the national level, the council level, and the local level. Since we are a volunteer organization, you are a member of a strong team that has support just about everywhere.
Training is available for all new leaders and volunteers at no cost. Volunteers can be mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, neighbors or friends 18-years-old and older. So why wait? Volunteer today and help today's girls become tomorrow's leaders.
